Every year someone declares email dead. Every year, that same person signs up for a newsletter, gets an order confirmation and resets a password. All by email.
Email isn't dead. It's just quiet. While everyone argues about the latest Instagram algorithm change, email keeps doing its job in the background, like the colleague who never posts on LinkedIn but somehow hits every target.
So let's talk about why emailers matter, why most of them end up in the bin, and what you can do about it.
You own your email list. You rent your followers.
Think of your Instagram followers as tenants in a building you don't own. The landlord, the platform, decides who sees your posts, how many see them, and how much you have to pay to reach the rest. One algorithm change and your reach drops overnight. Nobody sends you a notice.
Your email list is different. Those people gave you their address on purpose. When you hit send, your message goes to their inbox. No algorithm decides whether 4% or 40% of them get to see it.
That's why we keep calling email the one channel you own. You can't be shadowbanned from someone's inbox. (You can end up in spam, but we'll get to that.)
What a good emailer actually does for you
A well-made emailer isn't just "a newsletter". It does a few very specific jobs:
- Brings people back. Most visitors don't buy on their first visit. An email is how you get them to come back without paying for another ad.
- Sells without the marketplace cut. A sale from your email list to your own website means no commission and no bidding war with competitors.
- Rescues abandoned carts. Someone added a kurta to their cart and then got distracted by a cricket score. A friendly reminder email gets a surprising number of them back.
- Builds trust slowly. Product launches, behind-the-scenes stories, care guides. Each one makes the next purchase a little easier.
- Costs very little to send. After the template is built, each extra campaign mostly costs you the time it takes to write it.
Ads stop the moment you stop paying. A good email list keeps working.
So why do most emailers get ignored?
Here's the uncomfortable part. Most businesses aren't failing at email because email doesn't work. They're failing because their emails look like a ransom note made in Microsoft Word.
Some common offenders:
It looks great in Gmail and falls apart in Outlook. Email clients are stuck in the past. Outlook on Windows still renders emails with Microsoft Word's engine. Yes, really. The layout that looked perfect in your preview turns into a stack of broken boxes for half your corporate audience.
It's one giant image. Designing the whole email as a single JPEG feels like a shortcut. Then images are blocked by default, and your customer sees a blank white rectangle with a tiny "download pictures" link. Very mysterious. Not very clickable.
It breaks on a phone. Most people check email on their phone, often with one thumb while waiting for chai. If they have to pinch and zoom to read your offer, they won't read your offer.
Dark mode turns it into a horror film. Your lovely black logo on a transparent background? In dark mode it disappears into a black void. Your carefully picked brand colours get inverted into something nobody approved.
The button is hiding. If the "Shop now" button is buried below three paragraphs and a banner, it might as well not be there.
None of these are problems with email itself. They're problems with how the email was built.
What a properly built emailer looks like
The good news is that every one of these problems has a fix. It just takes someone who has fought Outlook before and won.
A solid email template should be:
- Hand-coded and responsive, so it adjusts neatly from a big desktop screen to a small phone
- Tested across real email clients: Gmail, Outlook, Apple Mail, and on mobile, before it goes anywhere near your list
- Built with real text, not just images, so it still makes sense when images are blocked and it's less likely to trip spam filters
- Safe in dark mode, with logos and colours that hold up when the inbox flips to black
- Modular, so your team can rearrange sections for each campaign without calling a developer every time
- Accessible, with alt text and a plain-text version for every reader and every inbox
Get the template right once and every campaign after it gets easier, faster and better looking.

Emails work better with a website behind them
One thing worth saying: an email can only be as good as the page it sends people to. If the "Shop now" button leads to a slow, confusing website, the email did its job and the website dropped the ball.
That's why a lot of our clients pair their emailers with one of our other services:
- A landing page built for a specific campaign, so the email and the page tell the same story. Here's what makes a landing page convert.
- An online store that makes buying easy once people click through. Our Shopify development services start from ₹50,000.
- A faster website overall, because nobody waits around. Read why website speed matters.
Email brings them in. Your website closes the deal. We can build both, so they actually work together.
When you don't need us (yet)
Being honest: if you have 30 people on your list and you send one email every few months, a free template from your email platform is fine. Write good subject lines, keep it short and put the button near the top.
Come back when your list is growing, you're sending regularly, and you're tired of your emails looking different in every inbox.
The bottom line
Email is old, unglamorous and still one of the best returns you'll get on your marketing time. The channel works. What usually doesn't work is a template that breaks in Outlook, disappears in dark mode and hides its button.
Fix the template and the rest gets a lot easier.
If you're ready for emailers people actually open, click and read, get in touch. We'll come back within one business day with a fixed price and a timeline. We promise our reply won't break in Outlook.
